Taiwan Photo Diary

It has been almost a week since coming back from my holiday and I am feeling incredibly nostalgic! Those past three weeks sure did fly by. I have travelled overseas many times, but this trip was definitely the most memorable one to date. I suppose it was due to the large amount of people that came along as well. Though it was quite hectic with three families altogether, it sure was full of laughter and happiness, which is always the most important part of any trip, aside from the sightseeing and food. To share my wonderful experience while overseas, here are some photos from the Taiwan part of the trip, which was definitely my favourite out of all the places we had been to!

Though this was the second time I have been to Taiwan, I was still amazed by the wondrous and breathtaking scenery. Taiwan is heavily occupied by mountains, forests, national parks and many other naturalistic reserves that have successfully captivated many tourists' attraction.

We also got the opportunity to spend Chinese New Year in Taiwan, which was something I was definitely looking forward to as I have never spent New Years in Asia. To celebrate the year of the horse, we were able to light up our very own lanterns! Different coloured lanterns represented different hopes and dreams for the New Year. For example, red represented health, yellow represented wealth, blue represented studies and so on.

One of our destinations in Taiwan was Alishan and let me tell you, this had got to be the hardest part of our Taiwan trip! Although the mountain scenery was out of this world, waking up at 4am when the weather was 4 degrees outside just to go see the sunrise was not very pleasant. However, I believed that it was worth all the struggles as the last time I went to Alishan to specifically see the sunrise...we were unable to see anything, sadly. However, this time, we were fortunate enough to see the beautiful sunrise.

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I am one of the most non-pickiest eaters out there and will try almost anything! So, while in one of the street markets in Kaosiung, I decided to try some crickets...yes, I tried CRICKETS! Though I was slightly scared at first, it really did not taste that bad and in fact, it tasted rather nice. However after that, I had a very sore throat and lost my voice. I wonder if it was because of the crickets...

We were about to go to the top of Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world, but unfortunately due to the New Years, we would've had to wait for two hours since many tourists from China travel to Taiwan for the New Year.

On our second to last night in Taiwan, we went to the Modern Toilet Restaurant for dinner. How cool is that? A restaurant where you sat and ate from the toilet! Usually that would disgust a lot of people, but I applaud the restaurant for being able to pull it off! The food was quite average though, since they were selling the theme rather than the food. But hey, food that comes out of the toilet doesn't necessarily have to be nice!

Taiwan is a truly magnificent place and I will definitely go again in the near future. The food, the culture and the scenery is absolutely astounding. I would highly recommend people to travel there. And if they do, I'll make sure they take me along as well.

Be sure to stay up to date with my blog as I will soon be posting a Haul post of all the things I bought while overseas!
